Weld Quality

  Applications for Industry

Superior weld quality is achieved using Friction Stir Welding compared to Fusion Welding techniques. The crushing, stirring and forging action of the solid phase weld produces a weld with a finer microstructure than the parent material. These welds perform to 90% of the parent material in tensile strength and are comparable in fatigue performance. Typical fusion welds achieve only 60% performance. Friction Stir Welding can also be used in all positions (horizontal, vertical, overhead and orbital) since gravity has no influence on the solid phase welding process.
